We are Maize Mirchi
Founded in 2007, Maize Mirchi is the University of Michigan’s premier fusion a cappella group. Performing on and off campus, as well as competing in Dallas, Chicago, New York, and all across the nation, we operate by the motto "South Asian-inspired, but never required". We often incorporate familiar Western genres, such as contemporary pop and R&B, with Indian styles like Hindustani and Carnatic music.
Maize Mirchi has released two full studio albums and two EPs. We are the first South Asian a cappella group to place first at an ICCA Quarterfinal five consecutive times (2022 - 2026), and we became the first South Asian group to ever advance to the ICCA Finals in 2023! We have competed in prestigious South Asian a cappella competitions such as Awaazein, All American Awaaz, and Mehfil.
Maize Mirchi has grown so much, but we aren't ready to stop just yet. Follow our story here.
